Driver Sustains Minor Injuries In Motorcycle Crash Buy a print Police officer Mitch Shaw said Frances Rugg, 59, of Paris, the driver of the Honda GoldWing "trike" and her passenger, Donna Turner, 73, of Norway were both thrown from the motorcycle just after 4:30 p.m. when the driver lost control and went off the road near 747 Waterford Road, narrowly missing a telephone pole. Witnesses at the scene say the motorcycle appeared to have traveled off the road some 30 feet, up a slight embankment and landed upright about two feet from the utility pole. The pair also landed near the pole. Witnesses say they believed the motorcycle rolled before landing upright on lawn. Clumps of grass were hanging under the broken windshield. During an interview last month, Florida State football Coach Jimbo Fisher mentioned that tight end Nick OLeary was in a motorcycle accident, saying he wrecked that daggone scooter and was banged up for about a month. The way Fisher talked about it, it didn't really sound like that big of a deal. But it was. Footage of the accident was released on Thursday, and after watching it, you have to wonder how O'Leary survived at all. As you can see in the video above, which was captured by a bus dashboard-cam, O'Leary is riding down the street when a car pulls out in front of him. O'Leary crashes into the side of the car and the motorcycle disintegrates as O'Leary is sent hurtling down the street. According to police reports, O'Leary actually walked away from the accident, though he had severe bruising.

Motorcycle crashes into deer in New Albany accident, passenger severely injured

Last year at this time, State police were putting out the warning that motorcycle fatalities were happening at an alarming rate. The total of fatalities from January to July of 2015 was 65, compared to this year's 45. But the message is still the same, and the Kentucky State Police want to see that number continue to drop, so they host events like the Motorcycle Awareness Day in Frankfort, where riders learn about what they should wear and how to stay safe on the road. And although helmets aren't that fashionable, police say it is the helmet that will more than likely save your life if you are ever in a motorcycle accident.

Under Florida law , each car driver is required to carry a minimum of $10,000 in insurance coverage for personal injury arising out of an accident, and coverage of $10,000 for property damage caused to vehicles or property belonging to another person. As a result, a driver involved in an accident can claim from their own insurance for the cost of their injuries, without needing to address the question of fault or sue another party. Robbs was taken to University Hospital in Salt Lake City by medical helicopter. Cannon said that while her injuries did not appear to be life threatening, her loss of consciousness was a concern.

But, there is also more traffic when it comes to other types of vehicles during the summer travel season, meaning there are more potential hazards for motorcyclists in the peak months. When a motorcycle is involved in an accident, the results are often devastating. Unlike a passenger automobile, motorcycles provide little in the way of mechanical safety features to protect operators and passengers. While this is somewhat compensated for by a motorcycle's increased maneuverability and shorter stopping distance, motorcycles riders are still at a far greater risk on the road compared to other motor vehicle operators. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, per vehicle mile traveled, a motorcycle rider's risk of falling victim to a fatal accident is 35 times higher than for someone in a passenger car. Man killed in motorcycle crash in Macomb Co.

Motorcycle accidents lead to questions of fault

Police said Brandon Kuzminski was riding a yellow 2009 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on Romeo Plank Road at 28 Mile around 9:44 a.m. when he entered the intersection. It was then that a northbound 2000 Dodge Ram van driven by a 36-year-old man from Harrison Township made a left turn into the path of the motorcycle leading to a head-on crash. An eyewitness told deputies that the driver of the van failed to yield the right-of-way to the motorcycle. Kuzminski was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the incident. The sheriffs department continues to investigate and will submit its information to the Macomb County Prosecutors Office to consider charges.

Detroit News PhotoStore Unfortunately, stories like this are all too common, with statistics showing that individuals riding motorcycles are 26 times more likely to be killed and five times more likely to be injured than someone riding in a car when an accident occurs. Such accidents and injuries can occur even when the rider is experienced and wearing a helmet or other safety gear. Determining fault When an accident between a motorcycle and another vehicle occurs, it is important to determine if the accident was caused by the actions of one of the drivers involved. If it can be shown that one of the drivers was somehow at fault, the other driver may be able to recover compensation for medical expenses or other costs he or she may have incurred due to injuries or suffering caused by the accident. This can be especially important in motorcycle accidents, where injuries are more likely and can often be more serious than those that can occur to drivers or passengers of cars or other types of vehicles. Negligence As with most cases where a person is injured, the determination of fault in a motorcycle accident is governed by the rules of negligence. Negligence essentially occurs when one person has a duty to use reasonable care but somehow fails to do so, resulting in another person's http://www.socallawsupport.com/ injury or other damage. In the case of an accident involving a motorcycle, for example, the driver of another vehicle has a duty to drive safely and to be aware of any motorcyclists with whom he or she may be sharing the road.

Methodology for Determining Motorcycle Operator Crash Risk and Alcohol Impairment

Print Methodology for Determining Motorcycle Operator Crash Risk and Alcohol Impairment  Alcohol-involvement continues to be a prominent factor in motorcycle crashes. Automobile-driver drinking and driving has been researched extensively, and the relationship between drivers' blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) and crash risk is well-understood. Unfortunately, our current understanding of the effects of BAC on motorcycle operation is insufficient. This project examined a variety of approaches by which the effects of alcohol on motorcycle rider impairment and crash risk can be measured. A two-volume report was prepared. Vol. I: Synthesis Report on Alternative Approaches with Priorities for Research ( Report # DOT HS 810 761 ) Various research methods were reviewed in the literature (see Volume II, Literature Review), and an expert panel was convened for detailed discussion and prioritizing of possible methods. Different methods were grouped by assessed scientific value and estimated cost. Generally, it was determined that methods using existing data would be the lowest cost, but would also have the lowest scientific value. Conversely, the best data will come from new, more detailed data collection methods specifically defining the population-at-risk. Methods examined include "field" studies that collect actual highway data, and "simulator" or "closed course" studies that collect data in a controlled setting. Priorities for future research were assigned to each methodology. The highest priority methodologies were assigned to "Contemporary Case Control," Simulation and Induced Exposure studies. Vol. II: Literature Review Report ( Report # DOT HS 810 762 ) A literature search was performed that focused on: (1) past research on impaired motorcycle operation; (2) past research methodologies used to understand alcohol's effects on human performance, including laboratory simulation, closed-course operation, self-report surveys, crash investigation, and analysis of archival crash data; and (3) methodologies used to measure exposure in populations-at-risk, including roadside surveys. The literature review revealed a dearth of research on impaired motorcycle operation relative to the objectives of this project. The collection of BAC data from on-road non-crash-involved motorcycle riders was the most significant need identified from the review. A total of 143 reports and Web sites were reviewed for this project and described in detail in Appendices A and B of this report. Sixty-one of these are cited in the two volumes of this report. An in-house study of fatal motorcycle crashes was also conducted and discussed in this report.

Fatal motorcycle accident snarls traffic on eastbound 105 Freeway

Although there was some rain overnight, police are not sure if the road was wet at the time of the accident. "I do believe there was some dew on the grass," said Alicia Smiley, a spokeswoman for LMPD. "He may have slid on the grass, once he made contact with that area. But right now I'm not for certain that a wet roadway was a factor in the accident." The man, whose name has not been released, was not wearing a helmet. Officers believe he may be in his 20s or 30s. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Toxicology reports are pending. No one inside the home was injured.

"With Chris, with that motorcycle, it was part of his freedom and part of his life and part of his person, that he enjoyed that ride and he enjoyed that freedom," paramedic Joshua Schuster said, adding Jennings would occasionally show up for SWAT training without his gear because he could not carry it on a motorcycle. Nonetheless, "He would not strike you as a hot dogger," paramedic Andrew Lusher said. "Never saw him ride without a helmet, he had gloves, he had what looked like a ballistic jacket." Jennings worked for Sunstar for about three years and was a SWAT medic for two years. Before that he worked for a fire department in his home state of Georgia. Services are pending, but fellow paramedics immediately shrouded their badges with black bands. Those who transported Jennings from the crash scene were immediately debriefed at the hospital and sent home for that shift and the next.

Impaired Motorcycle Operation - Riders Helping Riders (Final Report)

Impaired Motorcycle Operation - Riders Helping Riders (Final Report)  Additional Resources Volume III: Student Guide (DOT HS 810 908) Riders Helping Riders (RHR) is an instructional program designed to encourage motorcyclists to intervene to prevent drinking and riding by their motorcyclist peers. The program is based on focus group research which found that riders consider themselves to be united by an interest in riding, and willing to help other riders in need, but that a sense of individualism limits the extent to which riders are willing to intervene in drinking and riding. RHR is intended to convince motorcyclists that an impaired rider needs their help, and that they are in the best position to provide help. The program provides a "toolkit" of techniques for separating drinking from riding, discouraging riders from becoming impaired, recognizing impairment, and discouraging impaired riders from riding. An optional role-playing module is included. At the end of class, students are asked to sign a pledge to do their best to help an impaired rider live to ride another day. RHR was developed with the assistance of instructors from the South Carolina Rider Education Program and Motorcycle Accident Lawyer pilot tested by instructors of Georgia's Department of Driver Services, Motorcycle Safety Program.
