Charges pending after motorcycle crash

The man, in his 20s, was allegedly driving a motorcycle carrying a female pillion passenger when a police patrol heading the opposite direction noticed the driver had no helmet. After turning around to try to find the rider, the motorcycle took off and reportedly passed another police patrol, which clocked it at 160km/h. That vehicle also turned to follow the motorcycle, though police say there was no pursuit initiated due to the motorcyclist's dangerous driving. Shortly afterwards police came across a crashed motorcycle near the Okaramio Tavern. Sergeant Dave Lauer says the rider slowed quickly as he tried to turn into a private driveway but lost control, causing him and the passenger to suffer what he called "significant grazes". Sgt Lauer said neither was appropriately dressed for a motorcycle ride, with the man wearing a short-sleeved shirt and no helmet, and the woman wearing jandals and a dress. He said the rider had no motorcycle licence and was a disqualified driver, and the bike was not registered or warranted. Sgt Lauer said a range of charges were pending.

Both vehicles sustained only minor damage. At about 11:25 a.m. Clearlake Police Department (CPD) Officer Michael Carpenter reportedly saw a dirt bike motorcycle being ridden by two subjects eastbound on Davis Avenue, according to CPD Sgt. Rodd Joseph. Allegedly, neither subject was wearing a helmet as required by state law, and it is also illegal to ride a dirt bike motorcycle on a city street. Carpenter attempted to conduct a traffic stop; however, the motorcycle sped away from the officer at a speed reported to be at about 50 mph, Joseph stated. The motorcycle made a right turn onto southbound Boyles Avenue at the intersection of Boyles and 39th avenues. The motorcycle reportedly crashed into the driver's side of the pursuing patrol car in an alleged attempt to turn the motorcycle around.
