During an interview last month, Florida State football Coach Jimbo Fisher mentioned that tight end Nick OLeary was in a motorcycle accident, saying he wrecked that daggone scooter and was banged up for about a month. The way Fisher talked about it, it didn't really sound like that big of a deal. But it was. Footage of the accident was released on Thursday, and after watching it, you have to wonder how O'Leary survived at all. As you can see in the video above, which was captured by a bus dashboard-cam, O'Leary is riding down the street when a car pulls out in front of him. O'Leary crashes into the side of the car and the motorcycle disintegrates as O'Leary is sent hurtling down the street. According to police reports, O'Leary actually walked away from the accident, though he had severe bruising.

Last year at this time, State police were putting out the warning that motorcycle fatalities were happening at an alarming rate. The total of fatalities from January to July of 2015 was 65, compared to this year's 45. But the message is still the same, and the Kentucky State Police want to see that number continue to drop, so they host events like the Motorcycle Awareness Day in Frankfort, where riders learn about what they should wear and how to stay safe on the road. And although helmets aren't that fashionable, police say it is the helmet that will more than likely save your life if you are ever in a motorcycle accident.

Florida no-fault laws Florida is a no-fault car insurance state. Under Florida law , each car driver is required to carry a minimum of $10,000 in insurance coverage for personal injury arising out of an accident, and coverage of $10,000 for property damage caused to vehicles or property belonging to another person. As a result, a driver involved in an accident can claim from their own insurance for the cost of their injuries, without needing to address the question of fault or sue another party. Motorcyclists, though, are not legally required to carry such insurance, though it is highly recommended. Motorcycle damage or injuries in the no fault system If your motorcycle is involved in a collision with a car, several factors determine who is responsible for the cost: Damage to your motorcycle. Although you are not required to carry insurance as a motorcyclist, if you do have collision insurance, you can claim through your own insurance for the cost of repair.

But, there is also more traffic when it comes to other types of vehicles during the summer travel season, meaning there are more potential hazards for motorcyclists in the peak months. When a motorcycle is involved in an accident, the results are often devastating. Unlike a passenger automobile, motorcycles provide little in the way of mechanical safety features to protect operators and passengers. While this is somewhat compensated for by a motorcycle's increased maneuverability and shorter stopping distance, motorcycles riders are still at a far greater risk on the road compared to other motor vehicle operators. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, per vehicle mile traveled, a motorcycle rider's risk of falling victim to a fatal accident is 35 times higher than for someone in a passenger car. Injured in a motorcycle accident, or know someone who has been? You may need a lawyer Motorcycles present a smaller visual profile than other types of vehicles, and it is easy for other drivers who are not paying attention to miss a motorcycle in their path.

Unfortunately, stories like this are all too common, with statistics showing that individuals riding motorcycles are 26 times more likely to be killed and five times more likely to be injured than someone riding in a car when an accident occurs. Such accidents and injuries can occur even when the rider is experienced and wearing a helmet or other safety gear. Determining fault When an accident between a motorcycle and another vehicle occurs, it is important to determine if the accident was caused by the actions of one of the drivers involved. If it can be shown that one of the drivers was somehow at fault, the other driver may be able to recover compensation for medical expenses or other costs he or she may have incurred due to injuries or suffering caused by the accident. This can be especially important in motorcycle accidents, where injuries are more likely and can often be more serious than those that can occur to drivers or passengers of cars or other types of vehicles. Negligence As with most cases where a person is injured, the determination of fault in a motorcycle accident is governed by the rules of negligence. Negligence essentially occurs when one person has a duty to use reasonable care but somehow fails to do so, resulting in another person's
