NWS - Fatal Accident 02 Jason Hekker. McKinnon was the passenger of a 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Robert Krempin, a 63-year-old Vacaville resident, Hekker said. They had been traveling southwest on Porter Road approaching Midway Road when Krempin lost control of the motorcycle, which he laid down, causing both riders to be thrown from the bike. "We believe because of Mr. Krempin's intoxication level he was unable to negotiate the curve in the roadway," Hekker said. Krempin, McKinnon and the motorcycle all landed in an irrigation canal on the south side of the road, with the motorcycle landing on top of Krempin's torso and legs, pinning him, Hekker said. Members of the Dixon Fire Department responded to the crash and immediately began rendering medical aid to McKinnon, who had suffered major injuries.

"It is a tragedy to lose him." Friends, family and coworkers have written their words of sympathy for the Kuzminski family in the guestbook on the Wujek-Calcaterra Funeral Home website in the days since the accident. "Shock," "loss" and "sorrow" are just some of the words that dot the page, and posts have come from Richmond, Armada, St. Clair, Florida and California. Jankowski related the personal story of how Brandon and his mother Bev, a teacher at Krause Later Elementary School, helped him through a difficult time in his life recently. "My daughter was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, and Brandon and his family were nothing but supportive and helpful to me and my family," he said. "They were phenomenal in reaching out to us." The Armada principal said Kuzminski was an extremely polite and diligent student who was taking business classes at Macomb Community College and had been working since graduation. "He was always the kind of kid who was doing the right thing," Jankowski said.
