Harley rider killed in morning crash

Motorcycle accident near the intersection of Bull Hill and Courthouse Roads (PHOTO: Wayne Covil) (WTVR) Police are investigating a deadly motorcycle accident near the intersection of Bull Hill and Courthouse Roads in Prince George County. The accident happened around 9 a.m., according to police. Police said the operator of a 1980 Harley Davidson was killed when his motorcycle collided with a 1994 Chevrolet Lumina. The victim was identified as 51-year-old Gary Landes, of Prince George, according to police. The driver of the Lumina suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police asked drivers to expect delays near the intersection while investigators work to determine what happened.

Motorcycle crashes into deer in New Albany accident, passenger severely injured

Last year at this time, State police were putting out the warning that motorcycle fatalities were happening at an alarming rate. The total of fatalities from January to July of 2015 was 65, compared to this year's 45. But the message is still the same, and the Kentucky State Police want to see that number continue to drop, so they host events like the Motorcycle Awareness Day in Frankfort, where riders learn about what they should wear and how to stay safe on the road. And although helmets aren't that fashionable, police say it is the helmet that will more than likely save your life if you are ever in a motorcycle accident.

The 2011 Honda sport motorcycle, driven by Chad Small of Lanesville, apparently hit a deer and both he and his female passenger were knocked off the bike, according to a release from Brad Scott of the Floyd County Combined Accident Reconstruction Team, which was called to the scene to investigate the crash. Small was transported to Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services with non-life threatening injuries, but his female passenger, Stacy Truesdale of Underwood, suffered severe head trauma and was transported to University of Louisville hospital by helicopter. Neither Small nor Truesdale were wearing helmets. A U of L hospital receptionist said Friday afternoon that Truesdale was in fair condition in the intensive care unit. Criminal charges are expected due to alcohol and speed being involved in the crash, according to the release. CART investigates all fatality crashes and those involving serious bodily injury that may result in criminal charges.
