Officer wasn't wearing helmet in motorcycle crash

"Initial investigation indicated that Gregory M. Matero, age 25 from Putnam Valley, wasoperating his 2009 Yamaha motorcycle on a blind curvein the road when he encountered a pedestrian in the road," authorities said in a statement."He applied the motorcycle's brakes and lost controlof the motorcycle. The motorcycle struckanother Putnam Valley resident,56-year-old Kathleen M. Duncan, then hit a guide rail on the side of the road. Matero was ejected from the motorcycle during the crash." Matero was transported by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla with head trauma and internal injuries. He was initially listed in critical condition. Duncan sustained "multiple fractures" andwas taken by ambulance to Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor.

Police: Motorcycle Crash Leaves Putnam Valley Man with Head Trauma

(AP) Jamestown police say a Providence officer killed in a weekend motorcycle crash while off duty was not wearing a helmet. Police say 43-year-old John Reposa Jr. was riding a motorcycle through the intersection of North Road and Westwind Drive when it collided with a car at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday. Reposa was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, 44-year-old Marijke Landon of North Carolina, was not injured. No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.
